The spring nominations cycle is under way!

The Academic Senate is currently looking for nominees who are interested in and willing to serve as Senate Chair, and on a range of senate and university committees.

  • The nomination deadline for Chair of the Academic Senate is Wednesday, April 1st. A candidate forum will be held Thursday, April 9 during University Hour (hybrid or Zoom only, TBD), with elections opening April 10.
  • The nomination deadline for all other committee positions marked as "Open" is Friday, April 10. Elections will begin as soon as the Senate Chair has been elected.
  • All positions marked "Vacant" are available for immediate appointment.
  • Note: Faculty interested in serving as a senator for their department or affinity group should contact that entity; AEBC does not handle senator positions.

Nominees must meet all general qualifications for positions. Note that some committee member and chair positions have additional requirements, such as specific rank or prior service on that committee.

  • Senate Chair: at least 6 WTUs and 4 years at CI
  • Senators, whether directly selected or ex officio: at least 6 WTUs and 2 years at CI
  • All other positions: current employment as faculty at CI, save that no faculty member shall serve on a Senate Committee during their first year of service at CI

Only self-nominations will be accepted.

Elections will be held according to the schedule listed in the call for service. Appointments will be made on a rolling basis, unless otherwise indicated.

Identifying Open and Vacant Positions

The following links include complete information regarding service opportunities for CI faculty on committees under the purview of the Academic Senate, and on committees housed elsewhere in the university but staffed with the assistance of the Academic Senate.

  • Senate webpage listing all committees. Includes faculty membership rosters and links to individual committee webpages, as available.

How to Self-Nominate

  • Name, rank, and department
  • The specific position(s) concerned
  • Brief statement(s) of interest in the position and relevant experience, suitable for public distribution. Please include separate statements for each position.
  • Year of first appointment at CI, for positions with service requirements

Deadlines

  • Senate chair: Nominations are due by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
  • All other committees: Nominations are due by 11:59 PM on Friday, April 10, 2026.

Elections and Appointments Processes

Open positions shall be put to a vote. If the number of candidates for an opportunity equals or is less than the number of open positions, those candidates shall be considered elected by acclaim.

Vacancies shall be filled by appointment unless otherwise indicated, except that AEBC's members must always be elected.  During the appointment process, all vacancies are considered at large with respect to school/area, although preference will be given to nominees from the stated areas. All other criteria still apply. AEBC will oversee the appointment process.
